View Our Ford Escape InventoryPerformance and Powertrains
The new Ford Escape offers a more powerful lineup of engines that clearly outmuscle the Chevy Equinox. From a 181-horsepower 1.5-liter three-cylinder to a 250-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo-four to hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines at 210 horsepower, all four of the engines in the Escape's lineup outmatch the Equinox, which offers only a single powertrain driving all its trim levels: a 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 175 horsepower.
Traction and Towing
Both the Equinox and Escape feature traction-enhancing all-wheel drive to tackle tough weather and uneven roads. When it comes to towing capacity, however, the Ford Escape will do a better job taking you and yours to the campsite. It has a maximum towing capacity of a whopping 3,500 pounds of trailer when properly equipped. The Equinox, on the other hand, isn't built for towing at all with a maximum rating of just 1,500 pounds.
Passenger and Cargo Space
The 2023 Ford Escape also wins out in terms of cabin space. It offers a total passenger volume of 104 cubic feet and boasts a maximum cargo capacity of 65.4 cubic feet with all of the seats folded down. The Equinox is close but doesn't quite match up with 103.5 cubic feet of space for passengers and a maximum cargo capacity of 63.9 cubic feet with the seats folded.
The 2023 Ford Escape easily wins out as the better compact SUV.
