The 2022 Ford Bronco’s nostalgic design highlights what could well be the most high-tech and capable Bronco yet. The Bronco boasts some serious off-road capacity but doesn’t sacrifice refined tarmac driving either, making it easily one of the most versatile off-road SUVs out there.
Off Road Features
As you would expect from a vehicle with as much of an off-road focus as the Bronco, 4WD is standard across all trims. There’s also a raft of other features to help you on the trail, such as removable doors and beefy tires to get you through the toughest terrain. It’s also great for towing, with a rating of 3500lbs across both four-door and two-door models.
If you’re looking to cross some rivers rather than bash over dunes, then the Everglades variant is just what you need. A snorkel and elevated air intake increase wade depth, and a high-powered winch mounted on the front bumper will help get you out of sticky situations.
Engines and Performance
The standard engine option available for the Bronco is a 2.3-liter turbo-four that can put out 275hp and 315lb-ft of torque when using regular fuel or 300hp and 325lb-ft on premium fuel. Those looking for an upgrade can opt for the 2.7-liter, twin-turbo V6, which produces up to 330hp and 415lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy for the I4 is 20/21 mpg city/highway, while the V6 is rated 19/20 mpg.
There are two transmission choices available: a seven-speed manual with an ultra-low first gear and a ten-speed automatic; however, the manual transmission only pairs with the I4 engine.
Interior and Cargo
The Bronco delights in offering plenty of ways to feel the open air, including removable body panels, removable doors, and the option of a retractable soft-top roof. If you’re worried about the upholstery when exposed to the elements, marine grade vinyl and rubberized flooring are available, although so are leather seats for those who want a touch of refinement.
Technology
A handy rack on top of the dashboard allows for smartphones and dashcams to be mounted easily. Ford’s latest Sync 4 software runs the 8.0 or 12.0-inch touchscreen, which can be upgraded with an excellent off-road navigation system. USB charging ports come as standard, and wireless charging is also available. Most models are equipped with a six-speaker audio setup as standard, but higher trim levels come with an improved 10-speaker Bang and Olufsen system.
Safety
All variants of the Bronco are equipped with Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 suite of safety technologies. These include front automatic emergency braking, hill start assist, and automatic high beams, amongst a raft of other features.
